Residential Flooring: Top Floor Colour Trends for 2023

How much do you know about residential flooring? Do you want to know about the top floor colour trends for 2023? Read on to learn more!

Flooring, on average, costs $3000 for 500 square feet. This works out to $6 per square foot. Cost isn't the only thing to consider when shopping for new flooring. There's also material as well as contractors, and even color. Colour can be especially fickle when it comes to residential flooring. If you're the type who likes to be trendy, you'll need to stay on top of this year’s colour trends. We'll be more than happy to help you by listing some of the current trends in this week’s article.

Gray – Light vs Dark Hues

2023 is expected to bring in a lot of darker, more muted residential flooring colours such as gray. However, while the colour is a constant, the material isn't. For instance, pale, grayish woods such as White Oak, Ash, and Mango.

Another type of gray wood is aged wood. If you've ever seen an old bench or picnic table, you might've noticed that the wood seemed faded and gray. This is because wood naturally fades due to elemental exposure.

Explore Multi-Coloured Flooring

Multi-coloured flooring has been around for decades, usually in the form of tiles. However, you don't necessarily have to use tiles to do it or go with a black-and-white alternating pattern.

You can choose any number of materials in any number of patterns. If you wish, you can abandon the idea of patterns entirely and aim for something more energetic and shocking, such as vibrant reds, oranges, and yellows.

Keep in mind that flooring needs to be functional as well as fashionable. Those with pets should stick with harder, more scratch-resistant types of flooring, such as tile.

Distressed Flooring

One of the most interesting floor trends for the new year is a texture trend as well as a colour trend. Distressed patterns are a type of pattern that aims to be tactile. The design is three dimensional and adds character to your floors or anywhere else it's applied.

Similar things can be done with colour patterns. Paint splashes and different-coloured ingredients embedded in the flooring can create unique looks.

Distressed flooring doesn't even have to be patternless. For instance, a tile with different-coloured stone pieces embedded in it, but always in the same order, is enough. Distressed pieces must have an element that pops visually and on a tactile level, but how this is achieved is up to you.
